Marvel fans were so focused on Chris Evans in the Deadpool & Wolverine post-credits scene that most of us missed the other big superhero reveal lurking in the background.
If youre eagle-eyed enough, Channing Tatums Gambit can be seen alive and well on one of the TVA monitors in that end-credits tag. On Tuesday, weeks after the film was released in theaters in July, star, writer, and producer Ryan Reynolds shared the scene on social media to give audiences a clear look.
During the events of the film, Reynolds Wade and Hugh Jackmans Logan teamed up with Jennifer Garners Elektra, Wesley Snipes Blade, Dafne Keens X-23, and Tatums Gambit to take on Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) and her forces in the Void. Though the battle seemed to be going in their favor, the all-devouring being Alioth arrived. By the end of the movie, Keens Laura was brought back from the Void to reunite with Logan, but the fates of the other three were seemingly unknown.
Ryan Reynolds is mortified over cutting Rob McElhenney from Deadpool & Wolverine I had to kill a darling.
In the secret Gambit moment in Deadpool & Wolverine — available to watch above — Gambit walks over the wreckage of bodies from that fight in the Void. His glowing eyes turn towards the camera and he just smirks as a portal opens, teasing his escape from the Void and future things to come for this character.
*whispers* Marvel Sparkle Circle Reynolds posted along with the video to social media, referring to the magical portals made popular by Doctor Strange and the sorcerers at Kamar-Taj. A version of the sequence is in the film — on one of the monitors in the deep background of the TVA.

Tatum was asked about this particular scene while making the press rounds for his other new movie, Blink Twice. The actor told Collider, ”I think at that moment, if I had to guess, hes definitely still in the Void. But theres something thats happening in that moment that maybe no one knows yet.”

He then deflected his tease by adding, ”You never know. I mean, literally, I could never be in another Marvel movie again, and it wouldnt surprise me because Ive had it in my hand before, and its gone away. I’m always grain-of-salting it, but Im hoping that [Marvel Studios head] Kevin [Feige] will allow me in.”

Marvel
Many longtime Marvel fans know that in the days before Disney purchased 20th Century Fox properties and welcomed the characters they owned (the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Blade, etc.) under the Mouse House banner, Tatum was set to play the Cajun card-slinging mutant in a standalone movie that the actor likened, funny enough, to Deadpool in tone. But those plans were scrapped after the Disney-Fox merger, and Marvel focused more on expanding its interconnected multiverse of movies and TV shows — which made Tatums appearance as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine all the more special.
“I thought I had lost Gambit forever,” Tatum, also known for Magic Mike and 21 Jump Street movies, wrote in a post social media about the role. “But [Reynolds] fought for me and Gambit. I will owe him probably forever. Cause I’m not sure how I could ever do something that would be equal to what this has meant to me.”

We only know some of the plans for Marvel moving forward, including Robert Downey Jr.s return to the MCU as the new Thanos-level threat Doctor Doom, but theres still a question mark around characters like Gambit. Feige teased to Entertainment Weekly for a cover story interview that Deadpool & Wolverine is ”really when it all starts” for Marvels mutants.
